Re-charge & Re-connect Mind, Body & Spirit.

Join Hannelize Robinson at the picturesque Oaklands Country Manor in Central Drakensberg for a rejuvenating weekend of Yoga, Meditation, fresh air and mouthwatering, healthy organic and locally sourced food lovingly prepared by chef Kathy Romer-Lee and her team.

Take time out for yourself to draw attention inward, be present and re-connect mind and body. The practice of Yoga allows us to gradually purify and cleanse all the layers of the self – releasing what no longer serves you. The asana practice purifies the physical body and allows us to release tension and blockages. Pranayama (breath-work) cleans the energy channels and cultivates life-force (prana). Meditation cultivates a clear and calm mind.

HANNELIZE ROBINSON is a Vinyasa Yoga and Meditation teacher, PSYCH-K® facilitator and Event Producer based in Johannesburg. She is a dedicated student of Yoga Philosophy & Buddhism and founder of Conscious-Collab, an initiative established to host unique group experiences and gatherings – for mind, body & spirit – to help create a healthier, harmonious and more conscious, connected world.

Her personal journey of discovery has led her towards conscious and mindful living with yoga and meditation becoming an integral part of her life. Her intention is to inspire and assist her students on their own journey of growth and transformation by teaching a mindful asana practice while integrating meditation and breathwork.

Oaklands is situated in the Central Drakensberg, 30km from Harrismith, near the border of Kwa Zulu Natal and the Free State – approximately 3 hours drive from Johannesburg.

Passionate about sharing their energy, their environment and the produce of this beautiful farm, the Tully family, including sisters Annie, Caroline, Kathy and brother Simon are committed to creating a collective consciousness that builds hope, security and well-being for all.Permaculture, regenerative farming and vermiculture provide the foundation of a sustainable community that welcomes guests year round.

The award-winning kitchen is run by Kathy. Hugely passionate about farm to table food, she sources most ingredients from their own garden and from farms in the region. What she doesn’t have she sources locally, maintaining that a symbiotic relationship between land, people and community is the secret to a healthy and happy way of life. The result – simple, delicious, flavourful and healthy food.

“The Oaklands Whey”, which began in Caroline’s home kitchen, is now made in a proper production kitchen on the farm and is sold throughout South Africa. Started from her personal desire to become more healthy using natural alternatives and her pursuit of optimal gut health, the “medicine foods” that she offers include Kombucha Vinegar, Beet Kvass, Raw Organic Krauts, as well as her infamous natural antibiotic, Fire Tonic.

Accommodation is stylish yet homely, reflecting the comfortable countryside lifestyle that the stunning location affords. Each of the beautifully appointed rooms at Oaklands offers guests a perfect sanctuary from which to experience the splendour of the region.

Exquisite views of the Oaklands gardens, polo fields and surrounding mountains can be enjoyed from the Bruce and Clifton Rooms, while the Garden Suites offer a more private and secluded setting. While yoga will be the focus of the weekend, there are plenty of other activities including horse riding, hiking, tennis, birdwatching, swimming, learning more about regenerative farming or just simply relaxing.

“I have been privileged to attend a number of yoga retreats with Hannelize. The yoga sessions accommodate beginners as well as advanced practitioners and each and every person seem to benefit, whether they seek a rigorous workout or a session to reconnect mind and body with a teacher who adapts the practice to their level of ability. I found that the classes encouraged me to shut down from day-to-day pressures and embrace the tranquil setting and beautiful scenery that Oaklands offer. Hannelize creates a gentle and caring space in her classes. The accommodation, food and energy at Oaklands make this an ideal break away opportunity. One can merely enjoy the mindful practice or indulge all your senses by taking in the serene landscape whilst enjoying the delicious, honest-to-goodness food and company that the retreat offers.”

8 – 10 NOVEMBER 2019

As we immerse ourselves in the surrounding sights and sounds of nature’s awakening, we begin our day with a sunrise yoga and meditation practice on the deck overlooking the treetops and valley below. Practice will be followed by a morning game drive and a scrumptious breakfast before settling down for a midday siesta. After a late lunch we head out again for another game drive and sunset sundowners in the bush. On return to the lodge a gentle yoga practice leads us to dinner in the dining room or in the boma under the magnificent starlit African sky.

Tshwene Lodge provides the perfect location to slow down, turn within and connect with nature whilst experiencing an intimate, authentic African Safari. Handpicked by Conscious-Collab, the lodge is luxurious, secluded and sustainable.  It only accomodates a maximum of ten guests and has been built with the strictest aesthetic attention to the surrounding environment.

Welgevonden Game Reserve is entirely malaria free and only 2 ½ hour drive or 45 minute flight from Johannesburg, making it one of the most accessible premier wilderness reserves in South Africa.   It is home to over 50 different mammals including the Big 5. The reserve has one of the largest populations of white rhino of any of Africa’s private reserves as well as kudu, giraffe, zebra, warthog, cheetah, brown hyena, the honey badger, close to 300 bird species and a whole lot more. At the same time, the restricted number of vehicles allowed in the park and the fact that the animals have never been hunted means that the they remain largely unphased by human proximity, allowing for particularly close and personal encounters.

Vinyasa Yoga & Meditation Retreat

Buddhist Retreat Centre, Ixopo

3 – 5 April 2020

Perched on a ridge at the head of a valley in the Umkomaas river system in KwaZulu-Natal, the Buddhist Retreat Centre looks out on a vista of indigenous valleys, forests and rolling hills receding like waves in the blue distance.

Here, for more than twenty years people of all religions have come to experience peace and tranquillity. It is a gentle, sympathetic space where one can be still and get in touch with oneself and reflect on the things that crowd one’s life. CNN featured the BRC as one of the 10 finest Meditation centres in the world.

Paths threading the 300 acre property each bring their own revelation: follow the pine-scented path to the dam; walk past ancient cycads to the tracks of early Voortrekker wagons; discover an assegai-sharpening stone on a hillside; or point your feet towards the rocky outcrop that provides a perfect seat for contemplating the valley below. Nearby are the breeding sites of the exquisite, but rare Blue Swallow of which the Endangered Wildlife Trust has appointed the BRC a custodian. Their presence, together with the BRC’s commitment to encouraging the indigenous biodiversity of the area, has led to the Centre being declared a Natural Heritage Site by former President Nelson Mandela. The BRC is a birder’s paradise, with more than 160 species recorded.

Integrated into this setting are the Centre’s buildings, accommodation lodges and cottages, the dining room and office, a shop, a lecture and art studio, a library, and the meditation hall. The labyrinth, the Zen gardens, the deer park and the Buddha Boma invite one in for reflection and contemplation.

The Centre is justly famous for its fine lacto-ovo vegetarian cuisine which is featured in its own best-selling recipe books, Quiet Food, The Cake the Buddha Ate and Plentiful:The Big Book Of Buddha Food. The BRC menu includes organically grown vegetables and farm-baked bread.

Yoga is the settling of the mind into silence because only when the mind is silent can we realize our true nature. The practice of Vinyasa yoga unites our mind and body and through conscious movement aligned to the breath constituting a dynamic flow. It stills the mind and allows us to become more internally focused and mindful in everything we do. It supports a healthy lifestyle and results in long-term health and well-being.

Yoga is accessible to everyone and it is not about how flexible or strong you are or about mastering a “difficult” pose – though even that will follow with regular practice. It is rather about how mindful and present you are – on and off the mat. It is a practical discipline; a way of looking at the world from a new perspective, allowing one to release old and limiting beliefs and habits in order to experience the truth of who we really are.

Some previous yoga practice is recommended; however, beginners are welcome. Please bring your own yoga mat.
